Volunteer With Us

St. Croix Valley Indivisible Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is our leadership team. We strongly encourage members to participate in all meetings, which are held the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings of the month. Steering Committee members may also serve as issue team leaders, event coordinators and communications experts, depending on their preference.

The Steering Committee:

  • Evaluates *everything* by asking the question, How will this help our group get stronger and better, and get political and policy results?

  • Develops the vision, mission, goals, and strategic plans of the group.

  • Reviews communications and proposed projects and frames events, actions, and gatherings in terms of the group’s values and priorities.

  • Coordinates project implementation, as needed.

  • Reviews recommended volunteer needs, volunteer responsibilities, volunteer position descriptions, accountability structure.

  • Fills in as needed.

  • Coordinates and cooperates with local, state, and national Indivisible actions and well as with other organizations whose mission and values are consistent with ours.

Climate Justice Policy and Project Team

The Climate Justice Policy and Project Team strives to have a meaningful impact on the climate crisis through education and engagement in actions on climate and environmental concerns, especially those close to home. The team consists of volunteer members for whom these issues are a priority. They bring together the wider community, group members and other local climate-focused organizations to work toward our objective of a more sustainable planet.

The Climate Justice Policy and Project Team:

  • Seeks to gather a community to take actions for a meaningful impact on the climate crisis

  • Strives to further the vision and mission of St. Croix Valley Indivisible

  • Operates under the auspices of the Steering Committee

  • Consists of volunteer members of SCVI who have climate and the environment as one of their political priorities

  • Seeks to engage and inform SCVI members and the broader community about climate/environmental topics of importance here at home

  • Works locally to initiate climate/environmental actions of interest to our members

  • Collaborates with local climate-related organizations to increase effectiveness

Expand Democracy in Minnesota Team

The Expand Democracy in Minnesota Team will work to move Minnesota closer to a true multicultural democracy that ensures a voice for all people in the state, and insists that everyone has the freedom, fairness and representation that our democracy promises is possible.

The Team will lead this effort in cooperation with We Choose Us MN. We Choose Us is a coalition of many groups in Minnesota who are committed to ensuring robust voter access to the ballot, a fair redistricting process and getting dark money out of politics. With them, we will advocate for concrete legislation which will strengthen Minnesota’s democracy.

Political Action Team

This team coordinates and collaborates with political campaigns with the goal of electing candidates to the state legislature who share our values.

In preparation for the election, we evaluate the candidates and decide as a group which campaigns we will actively support. We develop our camstrategy, taking into consideration the work of other groups in the community, with the intent of avoiding duplication of effort. Depending on the needs of the candidate, we may hold meet and greets, organize rallies, show up for parades, and participate in canvassing and other campaign activities. We will participate in and/or lead get out the vote efforts.

In non-election years, we monitor the performance and votes of opponents, and call out extremism and attacks on our democracy. We lift up the work of elected officials who are developing and supporting legislation which moves us toward a Minnesota in which all people thrive, no matter the place they call home, their race, sexual preference, or what job they do.

Other Teams

These other teams do the essential work that keeps the organization going. They work in coordination and cooperation with the other teams, relevant to the situation. People choose to serve on these teams based on functions they enjoy doing, wish to learn to do, and/or have special skills. We always have a need for people to:

  • Plan and organize events with the input of, and collaboration with, the issue teams

  • Recruit new members and help plan activities that will expand membership

  • Create and publish the newsletter, with the assistance of others team members

  • Maintain the website

  • Develop communications and messaging

  • Design and develop graphics

  • Photograph events and develop video

  • Develop messaging and post on social media

  • Write Letters to the Editor to about policy objectives

  • Manage distributed fundraising account and grants
